I thought I was done with this subject, until I watched the last debate. A few more points were brought up that I felt needed to be touched upon. This last debate made me stronger on my stance, stronger in my beliefs and got me fired up all over again. To watch the two debate on the issues they chose made me realize even more, that this country needs to have a strong leader—a leader who will lead, and will not relinquish his command to other nations.
I strongly believe that our nation should be run by Americans, for Americans. It should never be left in the hands of another country, or an organization made up of many countries. If we allow the United Nations to veto the decisions of our President, we fall to our knees—opening up the door for many a dictator to rule under the guise of our President. There should be no “Global Test”. Our nation’s security is dependant on our own, not some other country. To rely on the decisions of another country would make us look weak. Yes, it’s nice to have the support of other countries. But to rely strictly on their acceptance in our fight against those who threaten us is wrong. This isn’t high school! We did not get where we are today by ASKING, we got here by DOING!
On this same note, I must address the International Criminal Court issue. Many members in Washington oppose this and are currently fighting to extract itself from the ICC. But, there are still members who are for this initiative. Two are currently seeking the bid for President/Vice-President. By allowing the US participation in the ICC, our fellow Americans would be subject to international law, tried and sentenced by non-American judges. This would mean that our brave men and women in uniform would be subject to criminal charges while serving their country in times of need. Should a wife of an Iraqi soldier decide that the American soldier murdered her husband, that soldier would be charged, tried, and sentenced outside our jurisdiction. Our men and women of the Armed Forces should never fear the possibility of this when getting called to duty. Let them concentrate on their physical and emotional wellbeing rather than their own legal safety. The less a soldier has to worry, the less chance for failure.
If you disagree with my stance on the above two issues, you undoubtedly agree with the “One World Order” scenario. The ideals of our forefathers of a democratic republic will slowly be absorbed into a one world socialistic state. Our foundation will crack and we will falter. We will not be America any longer. And this scares me.
I also must speak out on the draft issue. So many of our younger generation are influenced by what they hear and see on TV. Many do not bother to research what is said. The latest polls prove that the majority of 18-29 year olds believe that Bush will reinstate the draft if re-elected. Representative (D) Rangle, NY introduced conscript duties for every US citizen between the ages of 18-26. (Senator Hollings (D), SC pushed a similar bill in the Senate). On October 6, 2004 the House voted 2-402, against this bill. Rangle voted against his own bill. And in President Bush’s own words, “We're not going to have a draft so long as I'm the President.” So, squash that rumor once and for all!
As for the “back door draft”, well, all I can say is: you knew what you were getting into when you raised your right hand! The Oath of Enlistment states:
"I DO SOLEMNLY SWEAR (OR AFFIRM) THAT I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC; THAT I WILL BEAR TRUE FAITH AND ALLEGIANCE TO THE SAME; AND THAT I WILL OBEY THE ORDERS OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE ORDERS OF THE OFFICERS APPOINTED OVER ME, ACCORDING TO REGULATIONS AND THE UNIFORM CODE OF MILITARY JUSTICE. SO HELP ME GOD."
To hear a soldier say “I did not sign up for this!” when talking about going to Afghanistan or Iraq, is ludicrous. The military is the defender of America. By history alone you should know if you join the military as active duty OR reserves, you know there is a possibility you will be called to do your duty! Wake up! There is no draft—be it back door or front! It is ALL VOLUNTEER!
This is the second installment of the reasons I choose who I choose. I may add to it again later, if I find more “talking points” that I feel need to be addressed. I only hope that everyone will research their voting decision on their own. I believe in an educated vote. I do not believe that the media should dictate who our next President should be.
Don’t forget to vote November 2, 2004. It’s your right! It’s your duty!
